BOOM! US Air Force Uses Explosives Just to get B-52 Engines Running

Apparently, the Air Force gets B-52 bomber engines running using explosives. The B-52 Stratofortress is a 93-ton strategic bomber, so you may need something more explosive to get you going in the morning. In order to maintain the aircraft running, Air Force maintenance crews practice using a small controlled explosive cartridge that can substantially reduce launch time. FARGO — The Hemmings Motor News Great Race will end this year in front of the Fargo Theatre on June 26. The race will begin in Warwick, Rhode Island, on June 18, and “120 of the world’s finest antique automobiles” will begin rolling onto Broadway in downtown Fargo at about 1 p.m., according to a news release from the Fargo-Moorhead Convention & Visitors Bureau. Volkswagen has put an expiry date on future development of its combustion engines. The German car maker says the next generation of its petrol engines will also be its last when they launch in 2026.
